***** Super RARE *****1987 Anniversary Jacket
General Dynamics Space System Division & NASA
Celebrating the....
25th Anniversary of the First Successful ATLAS flight &
30th Anniversary of the First Successful MERCURY Orbital Flight
I purchased this at an estate sale of a General Dynamics Engineer that actually worked on BOTH projects
This jacket is from 1987.....and does not appear to have ever been worn
This jacket is a very exclusive and limited edition collectible
Made and distributed only to individuals that were directly involved with one or both of these space missions
These missions are EXTREMELY significant missions when it comes to America's "race to space"
1987 marked the 25th anniversary of the First Successful Atlas flight and the 30th Anniversary of the First Successful Orbital Flight
The FIRST SUCCESSFUL ATLAS FLIGHT was on December 17th, 1957
The FIRST SUCCESSFUL MERCURY ATLAS ORBITAL FLIGHT was on February 20th, 1962
Jacket is a light grey color......
Size L
Inner tag says.....K-BRAND....Made in U.S.A.
Jacket has an elastic waistband with elastic cuffs, one front left upper pocket, side pockets and one inner pocket, neck has snap over closure
Zipper is fully functional and zips fully and easily from top to bottom
Front of jacket
has a large 25th Anniversary Patch for the Atlas Mercury John Glenn Freedom 7 Space Flights
Patch is an embroidered patch done in 3 thread colors, blue, gold and silver (see pics)
Patch measures approximately 4.25" in diameter and is affixed to the upper right portion of the jacket
Back of the jacket
has a copy of the commissioned lithograph that commemorated the 25th and 30th anniversaries
The lithograph full color print measures approximately 7.5" across and is 12" from top to bottom
Picture depicts one of the Atlas Mercury rockets blasting off with a head shot of John Glenn looking towards space
Also in the picture is the Friendship7 logo, and just below the head shot of John Glenn...the words...
"...God's speed, John Glenn"...along with several "silhouttes" of what appear to be "mission controllers"
This is an incredibly rare and highly collectible piece of America's Space Program
