Description
Vintage NASA Columbia STS-1 FIRST SHUTTLE FLIGHT ACHIEVEMENT Flown Coin and AwardFrom the estate of a 46-year rocket engine propulsion engineer who worked Apollo, Skylab and the Shuttle programs at NASA MSFC.
The certificate of award is in beautiful, near mint condition and has the recipient's name typed on it. It is signed by the STS-1 astronauts John Young and Bob Crippen (printed signatures).
The coin was "flown" based on the information inside the small circle on the certificate: "We would like you to have this memento made, in part, of metal taken from the Columbia."
This 11" x 14" government-issued wood frame includes an 8" x 11" black beveled matte surrounding the certificate. It is framed under glass.
The Space Shuttle Columbia Coin is about 1.5" in diameter and is lightly affixed to the certificate.
I have covered the recipient's name to protect his family's privacy. He worked at NASA Marshall from 1958 - 2004 and was on rocket engine console for many Apollo, Skylab and early Shuttle flights.
