Four Belgian, Flemish Yser River WWI Soldiers War Memorial Diksmunde, Belgium 1930. XI (11th Anniversary of ?)
Algemeene Izerbedevaart 24 August 1930 + 1932, 1934 and 1950. The to
wer was erected to the memory of the Flemish soldiers killed during World War One. The letters at the top of the tower: AVV-VVK =
Alles Voor Vlaanderen, Vlaanderen voor Kristus ~ All for Flanders - Flanders for Christ.
After WWII the anti-Flemish sentiment in Belgium ran high and the tower was destroyed with a bomb placed at its base. It was a political statement by the anti-Flemish who believed that the Flemish collaborated with Germany during WWII. The tower was subsequently rebuilt and has become an rallying  point and symbol for the political and cultural, Flemish Movement in Belgium. Much more on wikipedia!
